Storyline:
Cheery Alex Fletcher lives comfortably in Manhattan off the residuals from his 80's pop success and reprising his hits at school reunions, theme parks, and state fairs. But those gigs are declining, so he jumps at the chance to write a song and record it with reigning teen idol Cora Corman. Trouble is, he's good at melodies but needs a lyricist and has less than a week to finish. Enter Sophie Fisher, subbing for a friend who waters Alex's plants; she's a pretty good poet, quick witted, and could do it, if she'd agree. But there's some sort of shadow over her head that Alex may not be able to charm his way past. And what if they do get a song written, what then?

Hugh Grant was very Hugh Grant-ish and Drew Barrymore kinda sleep-walked through this movie. It was funny at times but very forced and hammy. I did, however, like the music which seemed to buzz in my head long after the movie was over. Definitely a matinee or a rental.

I was sure that my 14 year old son would pan this movie but he liked it alot! I think what grabbed him was the satire about 80's music groups-well done. Nice acting job all around for a movie that would not sail with less than expert acting.

I found this movie to be cute and mildly funny. The only times I found myself laughing outloud was when they made Hugh Grant sing or dance. I think I was laughing out of embarressment for him than anything else. Drew Barrymore seemed akward and her wardorbe/style seemed always messy like there was no budget for wardrobe. But I have to admit it was surprisingly good even with the cliche ending.

I thought the movie was cute. Nothing extra special... but not the worst movie I've ever seen. I may be bias though because I really do like Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. I'd recommend renting it...

Hugh Grant delivers a great performance as a loveable wounded washed up pop star. While Drew Barrymore as always performs well a wounded woman trying to run from her past relationships. As any romatic comedy this of course plays as it should giving the viewer that warm fuzzy feeling but with witty humor and great music. I have always been a fan of grant and barrymore and was so pleased that they finally did a movie together. I highly reccommend this flick to everyone, man or woman.
